Questions - what to expect

Where do we meet?

That’s entirely up to you. If we’re meeting virtually, your couch, office, or parked car works perfectly. If we're doing a walk-and-talk, you get to pick the scenery—do you want paved paths or natural trails? Close to home or somewhere new?

Here are a few favorite outdoor spots we can use: Bayview Park, Three Bridges Park, Grant Park, Humboldt Park, and Lakes Park.

Do I have to be in a "crisis"?

Not at all. Think of this as mental maintenance. You don’t wait for your car engine to explode before you get an oil change, right? Whether you’re navigating a big life shift, feeling a bit "stuck," or just want to improve how you handle stress, we’ve got plenty to work with. You don’t need a "tragedy" to deserve a better headspace.

Is this going to be… awkward?

Maybe for the first five minutes. But I’m a real person, not a clinical robot. We’ll talk like two humans. I might use a bit of humor, I’ll definitely listen, and I’ll probably ask the questions that help you see things a little differently. My goal is to make this the one hour of your week where you don’t have to perform or have it all together.

What if I’m not a "therapy person"?

Most of my favorite clients say that in the first session. If you’ve ever rolled your eyes at therapy jargon or felt like traditional offices are a bit stuffy, you’re in the right place. We keep things practical and grounded. If sitting on a couch feels too formal, we can always head to a park for a walk-and-talk session—nature is a great "un-stuffer."

What actually happens in a session?

We skip the "tell me about your childhood" cliches (unless it’s actually relevant) and focus on the "what now?" We’ll look at what’s draining your battery, identify the patterns that aren't serving you anymore, and build a toolkit of strategies that actually work in your real, busy life.

Are you going to tell me what to do?

I’m more like a navigator than a driver. You’re in charge of the car, but I’ve got the map and a flashlight. I’ll point out the potholes and suggest some better routes, but you’re always the one behind the wheel.
